COB LED strip selection starts with the installation space. Board width affects the profile you can use, the available LED density and the way the finished lighting line fits into furniture, cabinetry, coves and architectural details. The right choice is not simply the narrowest or the brightest option - it is the option that fits the project requirements as a whole.

Start with the installation detail

Before choosing a model, confirm the channel width, bend radius, mounting surface and visible light opening. A strip that is well matched to the profile is easier to install cleanly and gives the lighting designer more control over the finished appearance.

3mm and 5mm: for compact lighting details

The COB catalogue includes 3mm and 5mm series for applications where the mounting space is limited. The 3mm options include 320 and 384 LEDs per metre, while the 5mm range includes models from 300 to 480 LEDs per metre. These compact series are offered with DC 5V, 12V or 24V options, depending on the selected model.

Ultra-narrow strips are a practical choice for slim aluminium profiles, furniture details, display shelves, narrow wall lines and other installations where a standard-width board would be too visible or too large.

8mm: a versatile everyday COB format

For many residential and commercial projects, an 8mm board is a flexible starting point. The COB catalogue lists 8mm models spanning 252 to 840 LEDs per metre, with selected DC 5V, 12V and 24V versions. This gives project teams room to balance output, power, colour temperature and driver design without moving to a larger profile.

Use an 8mm series when you need a compact installation but still want a broad choice of densities and colour options. It is particularly useful for cove lighting, cabinetry, display lighting and integrated linear details.

10mm and wider: more room for output options

When the profile allows it, 10mm and wider multi-row formats create more choices for higher-density configurations. The catalogue includes 10mm models with 560, 630 and 840 LEDs per metre, as well as wider options for specific project requirements. These formats are useful where the lighting design calls for stronger output or where the system needs to suit a larger architectural channel.

A practical selection checklist

  • Measure the internal width and depth of the aluminium profile or installation recess.
  • Choose the required voltage before selecting the power supply and control method.
  • Compare LED density, power and efficacy for the selected model rather than choosing by width alone.
  • Confirm the required colour temperature, CRI and ingress-protection level for the application.
  • Review a sample in the actual profile and finish before approving a project-wide specification.

Every model has its own electrical and photometric data. Our team can help you match the strip width, profile, power supply and colour specification to your project. Contact BROTHERLED to discuss the right COB LED strip configuration.
